The old Scarawalsh bridge on the river Slaney was once the main crossing point for traffic between Enniscorthy and Gorey. It was blown up by the anti-Treaty/IRA in January 1923 (for a second time). A contemporary newspaper account state that this explosion was so loud that it was heard nearly 4 miles away in Enniscorthy.
