Ballcarney Bridge bombed

Ballycarney bridge

Ballycarney bridge, Co. Wexford. Built in circa 1780, this eight arch bridge spans the river Slaney about 5 km to the west of Ferns village. It was badly damage by an explosion in February 1923 and the central arch contains evidence of a rebuild, which may be related to this anti-Treaty/IRA attack.
